With a couple of packages of diapers, ribbon, and a few other items, you can put together a creative decoration that doubles as a gift for the parents-to-be. You can even create a teddy bear theme with your diaper cake.
Gathering Supplies
Before you begin making diaper baby shower cakes, you need to purchase your supplies. Two packages of diapers is the minimum you will need. If you want a very large diaper cake, more diapers are needed. Look for diapers with minimal design so they will not distract from the rest of your embellishments.
To assemble the cake, you will need wooden dowels and rubber bands. Both of these items can be purchased at any craft store. A large piece of cardboard, serving platter, pizza pan, or other large flat surface is also needed when learning how to make diaper cakes. The cardboard makes the cake possible to transport.
Finally, you will need embellishments. You can create a teddy bear diaper cake with some age-appropriate stuffed teddy bears or other bear toys. - First, you need to prepare each of the diapers. Roll up the diaper. Start at the open end. Place a rubber band around the first rolled diaper. Now roll up seven more diapers and insert them in the same rubber band with the first one. You will now have a completed top.
- When you are learning how to make diaper cakes, the next step is to create two more layers. These layers should be larger but are created in the same way. For the middle layer, you will need about 16 diapers. For the base, you will need approximately 31 diapers.
- Put the base on the cardboard or other portable flat surface. Place the two wooden dowels in the base layer. Be sure the dowels are placed between the diapers so none of them are damaged. Put the other two layers on top and make sure the dowels do not damage the diapers.
